Sonoma Coast Collection

Sonoma Coast Collection

During a trip to visit family this past February we visited a beach that was formed from beautifully tumbled stones and I had to bring some home. Sifting through those stones to find the “perfect” ones was meditative for me, in a way. It allowed me to focus on the micro and not get lost in the macro. I enjoyed examining my finds, seeking out the small details that made each one attractive or interesting.

There were smooth and rounded forms that I wanted to hold in my hands like a worry stone.

I found stones of amalgamated materials that had worn away at different rates leaving raised designs and contrasting colors.

Some were textured and roughened from tumbling over sand and rock.

And I looked for soft and soothing color palettes, or vibrant unexpected colors.

This new collection is mainly centered around non-precious and found objects. Most (but not all) of the materials were gathered at this small beach north of San Francisco. In this collection you’ll find naturally tumbled beach stones, shell, shark teeth, and ocean jasper.  Each stone or shell is set in silver with simple bezels, tabs, or prongs, and with a brushed satin finish that comes of light polishing—much like stones tumbled in the tide.

You could call these pieces “beach vibe” but what I really wanted to inspire is the peacefulness that comes from noticing and appreciating the little things that often go unnoticed.

Sonoma Coast: a collection of beach-combed ephemerae. Textured and worn by the sea. Meant to be touched and treasured.
